Fishing Poles For Kids – Take Your Kids Out Fishing

There is nothing more wonderful for a family activity than fishing, and nothing makes it more fun than each person having their own fishing pole to use, including the kids. Children’s fishing poles should be of a proper size and come in a variety of fun colors and characters. Let them be part of the selection process and they will more than likely take better care of their own equipment.

Some of the smaller, adult fishing poles can be used for older kids, but for the very beginner or the very young, it would be better to buy a kid’s pole. Most of them have additional gear as a bonus, and who does not love a free gift? A child will be thrilled not only with the pole itself, but with the bobbers, lures and other additions to their very own tackle collection.

Colorful basic poles are an inexpensive way to start a child off, but their are other choices to consider as well, including popular, cartoon characters such as Spongebob Squarepants, Dora the Explorer and Scooby Doo to name a few. Little girls will be thrilled with the Barbie pole, and little boys would be big fans of Spiderman. Of course, there might be little girls who like the latter as well, but either way, they will be joining in on one of the greatest hobbies around.

If you are lucky enough to live near a pond, a creek or even a lake, then starting a fishing gear collection is almost a necessity- otherwise, do not go overboard on price if you are not going to be using it very often. Little kids being well, little kids will play with it and end up tangling the line between fishing trips- then the next time you actually go, then there will be a whole process of having to restring the line.

My own kids were always great fans of fishing- my oldest continues to do so whenever he gets a chance to. They have always had their own poles, starting with one of the cartoon character ones and then moving up to a shorter adult model when they got a little older. They were always made to understand the rules of their gear- including how to handle the sharp fishing hooks so that they did not get hooked or hook anyone else in the process. It taught them not only how to take proper care of their own belongings, but patience and other valuable lessons as well. I have watched my son, the usually hyperactive one sit for hours while waiting for a fish to bite at his favorite fishing hole. Countless fishing poles later, he is a teen- almost an adult and still a fishing fan, and he probably will be for the rest of his life.
